WebIf the fuel pump stays on with key on, then probably the ignition switch is shorted and is feeding the power supply to the fuel pump even the car is off. Put the key in the ignition switch and shake it a bit and see if the fuel pump shuts off. Often if there is an internal short and the fuel pump would constantly prime and won’t shut off. I was cranking on it testing for spark with my timing light and it back fired so hard it blew the muffler wide open. The motor is a 340. I know it's timing related, bit I followed the instructions to a T. I have 12vbon the white wire, I verified spark from the MSD box.

When it happens, the motor will crank and for one rotation and then crank very slowly like it's kicking back. After that, it just cranks and cranks with no combustion.
