Well the starter started making bad noises, so took off the starter and found it was missing the spring off the bendix, so I had to split the tractor to retrieve the rest of the missing parts, the snap ring is trashed, and can't find another one like it, so I order a new bendix. Having him tell you to just convert to 12 volts is an easy answer without him understanding what caused the problem in the first place. Also, be careful of reman 24 volt components.
