Lithology density
Web18 jan. 2024 · Measured density is the sum of the rock system density and the pore fluid system density. Density values can therefore be used directly to identify lithology only when the porosity is insignificant. In porous rocks, density must be interpreted in combination with neutron or other porosity logs. Lithological Responses (Nonporous rocks) Webgamma rays have passed. This gives information about the density of the formation in the same way as for the conventional formation density tool. The count rate of the soft gamma rays in the lower energy shaded window in Fig. 14.2 is a measure of the density of the material (how many electrons there are available to take part in photo-absorption)

Hostile environmental conditions often exist in the well, contributing to the difficulty in acquiring these downhole data. Temperatures can exceed 400 °F, and WebThe Lithology Density Tool (LDT) is used to measure the bulk density of the formation, which is then related to formation porosity. The tool also determines the Pe of the formation, allowing for lithology identification, and contains a motorized caliper that is used for borehole diameter information.
The term lithology is used as a gross identification for a rock layer in the subsurface and uses familiar names such as: 1. Sandstone (or sand) 2. Limestone 3. Dolostone (or dolomite) 4. Claystone (or clay) 5. Chert 6. Coal 7. Shale (or mudrock) 8. Diatomite 9. Halite 10. Anhydrite 11. Gypsum 12. Both Mu-rho and density are lithology discriminators but density has advantage over mu-rho when it comes to fluid prediction in reservoir.
