The SIP server is not able to handle request re-transmits, Consequently the second REGISTER request, with the authentication information, is not recognised as a new request and the server rejects it. I was able to successfully register by modifying the SIP transaction logic not to send any retransmits. This phone supports TLS and I recommend using it... but we need to get in touch with the author so they can fix this bug in their software.
